Women’s Retreat – Love Your Neighbor

November 2008

The first lady of the church is an awesome woman. I remember years ago when I was unemployed and caregiver to my aunt after my mom passed away. I had absolutely no financial means whatsoever. I arrived at church in a pair of sweatpants and a sweatshirt on the day that the women’s conference was taking place. The friend who I was with asked if I would be able to attend the conference and she explained the financial situation. Well, the first lady looked me up and down and said absolutely give her access to the woman’s conference but please don’t let others know that there was not a cost associated with your admission to the event, and please get her something to eat, lol. Years have come and passed and I have never forgotten her generosity and her kindness during the time that I was clearly broken. On occasion, I make certain to remind her how much it meant to me then and how much it means to me still today as God’s word reminds us to love our neighbor, that is to say, those of us who are in need. “For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” NKJV Luke 6:38
